April.11th,
94, The Monarch, London.
Support:Zuno Men, 8 Story Window.
J:Poor food intake for Jack Plug tonight. Zuno Men, I thought, were
really good. 8th story window were polished, but I didn’t find
them too inspirational-moody music.1/2 way through the gig James’s
drums started dancing across the stage;James+Glenn tried to fix ‘em
while Ali and I did ‘Bolus’ pretty badly. James cut his
hand+splattered blood all over the snare and hi-hat. Jack Plug shared
a bottle of whiskey w/Frank art towards the end of the set. Then Jack
threw up at the front of the stage just before ‘Birthday’.
Disgusting. Also this huge gobber was dripping off the ceiling at the
end of the gig. The show ended w/James trashing the whole kit, Glenn
kicking guitars around all over the place, broken glass all over the
place.....etc. Apparently J.P stepped on the Amp head that was being
used to keep the drums stable and broke a couple of knobs off it.Ooops!
I don’t think the performance was that great but certainly not
a gig that’ll be forgotten too fast. The 1st time Theresa saw
the band for a while and I don’t think she dug it that much!
April,12th,
94, The Camden Palace, London
line up: DLD
J:Young crowd all snogging in corners. Long haired hipsters banging
heads to happy songs misspent youths. Then the music stopped and the
men of DLD assumed the position. Jack Plug looked absolutely smashing
as he crooned to the packed house. A couple of people stage-dived a
few times and I managed to kick in the butt. The room was huge-serious
“Stadium Rock” time. The drum riser was really wobbly but
they had a bit of wood nailed to the front of it to keep the kit stable.
Great rider! 24 large cans of Grolsch plus little pies, Cadbury rolls,
cake +lemonade....
F:had a good gig but this was another part of a string breakage phase.
So I lost a string, but managed to change guitars mid-song once again.
Garret from Compulsion was there to see us again. Jeremy Rogers had
a good time, inspired by being backstage amongst the drunken antics!
April
19th, 94, The Corn Exchange, Cambridge.
Line up: The Wonderstuff, The Gigolo Aunts, and DLD.
J: Limited food intake early on probably resulted in greater than average
intoxication later on. “Hello Cleveland” Huge place w/too
much gear. We used Gigolo Aunt’s gear. Vocalist was best friends
w/Kendall! Theresa gags. F: Awesome gig! Miles Hunt is definitely not
a cunt!!! R: But his band still sucks a big one. Last band on Earth
I ever expected to play with, but the whole night was a blast. Ali’s
one man show backstage will not be forgotten. J: people claimed to hear
Jack Plug singing 2 notes at once. Are they winding me up? The crowd
really got into the Wonderstuff-jumping around like popcorn. Miles and
the guitarist w/goatee were really friendly and normal. We went to their
room and nicked lots + lots of beer + food. When we 1st showed up I
was feeling really ameteur. We went onstage at 7.15pm to a ½
empty house, but the place had filled out by the time we were done.
Ali leaned against the shelf in the Stuffies dressing room and broke
it - their tape player fell on the ground but continued cranking out
the Sex Pistols. F: an impromptu photo shoot in the dressing room resulted
in F. Art swinging off the clothes rail-it broke, then he lands on top
of Jack Plug, heavily, who proclaims painfully “I hope we haven’t
broken anything” F., Art replies “No the guitars are OK!
April
20th, 94, The Oliver Twist, Colchester.
Line up: DLD and Sulphur.
J: Really friendly promoter. The PA was about the size of Ali’s
home stereo. R: Something that didn’t please the snotty Sulphur,
but suited us fine. Probably the best turn-out we’ve had outside
of London so far + the first time we’d get to play a couple of
the songs off ‘Bucket’ F: Sulphur sucked + helped themselves
to our rider (cunts) Nick Nack came to his first DLD gig. Had a great
laugh on the ride home!
April
21st, 94, Moles Club, Bath.
Support: Bugg.
J:Serious gnarl-factor going on. The club was quite small-low stage.
that was cool. Good crowd. Satay, Chilli,Spag, was all good but served
a little late. We had a case of Carlsberg that we shared with Bugg.
Overall it went pretty well. I started the gig w/a taped up face, to
sing “If I Had Only Listened” but it didn’t go to
well. Vocals were well out. The rest of the gig went fine though. I
played most of it with 5 strings. Bouncing off the back wall was a lot
of fun. Before the gig James,Ali+JP went to get food and go busking.
While we were eating some dude came up and asked if he could take our
photograph. Pretty weird!
April
22nd, 94, Brixton Academy, London.
Line up: The Wonderstuff, The Gigolo Aunts and DL
F:Very surreal event this evening. Massive stage, loads of booze, oh!
and by the way much of the evenings entertainment came from AliMac and
his drunken antics. J:Glenn lost his tooth in the upper balcony and
we were sure it was lost! The bouncer guarding the upper area was missing
the *same tooth* as Glenn! It was funny seeing the two of them together!!!
April
23rd, 94, The Garage, London.
line up:Sleeper, DLD, Tripmaster Monkey.
R:HERE, IN MY VAN, I CAN PISS IN A CUP..... J:Tripmaster Monkey were
really good. One of my faves that we’ve played with so far. The
end of Sleepers set was really good too. The bass player got pissed
off or something ½ way through their encore song and he threw
the bass across the stage+walked off. I think we got 12 cans of Holsten.
Glenn got totally wasted and decided it would be a good idea to go over
to Micks, wake him up and give him back his amp. A:My mum&sister
came down from the W.Midlands to see DLD for the 1st time. After the
performance, which i thought went really well, i commented-‘better
and find mum & see if I’ve still got any inheritance’!
F:I think I’ll keep my shirt on from now on!
No
Date supplied! The White Hart, Kingston.
Line up: Pighorn, Dld, Orange deluxe.
J:By this time Frank Art and myself had managed to break both *both*
Rat pedals.... Pighorn kick ass! Visitation from the Zimmer Frames as
if apparitions (especially Lisa!) was well impressed when James actually
managed to break the underskin of his snare! Our rider included 24 beers, bottle
of whiskey and a block of hash. F:very drunken gig, frank art slugging
back whiskey as if were lager! Real bad hangover next day whilst recording
‘Punkture’! J:James played drums 4 Pighorn too, and at one
point JP and Glenn took to the stage. I don’t think anybody could
tell though, ‘cause the fooger was going full blast!
May
22nd, 94, Jones wine bar, Chester.
Support: Smear.
J:it felt great to sing into a Tandy microphone form the 1st time since
Jr High. The P.A. was, in all fairness, a little louder than the radio
in the Moonbus. R:Still sounded pretty good from where I was sitting.
Good+raw and finished with Jack plug trashing my kit for me and finishing
it off. Zero crowd but we played for and with ourselves! J:Baz the engineer
showed up with Joolz to witness the energy-fest in this small, wooden
room. JP made the mistake of wearing only his yellow slicker, which
soon became the “Slime Suit”. The food was pretty good;
veggie stew stuff. Plus we got a case of Grolsch bottles. 1st T-shirt
sale! “We ran out of fuel”-AliMac. We picked up a new Rat
pedal that morning and picked everyone up on the way back. Spent *much*
too much time in the car over the course of the day. Not bad for our
1st gig in, like, 2 weeks. Smear were pretty damn bad. Their vox dude
was struggling not to walk off stage and hang out with his friends,
I think. Totally un-into-it. Also I hear there was a story about the
trip there but I was asleep and missed it!
May
23rd, 94, The Boat race, Cambridge.
Line up: Compulsion, DLD.
J:She slapped him as hard as she could across his semi-shaven, the firm
mountings of her jewelled ring gashing the rough skin. In the silence
that followed, one could have detected a distinct wheeze in her panting
breaths. Damn, Compulsion have a lot of crap! Nothing compared to the
minimal gear of their US tour. It must be said that they’re a
fun band to watch. F:Had a good 1st gig w/Compulsion, got on really
well with them etc., etc. date?
