J:We got Kronenbourg 1664 on the rider. we ate packed lunches from the
night
before. Sonar Nation were plenty intoxicated from the moment they arrived.
James+Jack tried to out-drink Frank and did damn well. DLD cut all the
slow
songs from the set and even the moderate paced ones were played super-fast.

J:This place was absolutely enormous, and I could of feel a sort of
fear vibe
shooting through my bones as the Ned's finished their soundcheck and
we were
introduced to the crew. My doubts about the decision to be on the tour
were
allayed, as soon as the mint-new, laminate was in my sweaty hands, however,
I knew we had got what we had come for. Jon fatbeast's reassurances
about how
everything would be O.K had the opposite effect on my feelings about
he next
1O dates. Sure enough the sound was boomy, there was a 4ft moat of bouncers
between stage+crowd and what crowd were there did'nt come to see DLD.
The backstage was cool though, and we had good food prepared by a narley
student, and a good game of guitar-cricket. Plus Frank set up an apple
dunking
bowl and we had a good hang out. The night ended after Frank had a heated
discussion about nothing much with an equally drunk P.C. chick.
F:Wanna come w/us. student:what RU doing. F: Gangbangs..... the lot!!!!!

J:Arriving at the venue, we realize we've lost the magic carpet so we
have to
use Baby Chaos's kick drum. we had a very "tour fever" interview
with a guy
from the student paper.
A:We got told off for arriving late for soundcheck-what a wierd venue.
sattelites suspended from ceiling and a semi-circular barrier in front
of
stage so the audience were miles away. Gig was OK-Jack's guitar was'nt
coming
through out front so sound kind of sucked. 24 cans of Stella afterwards+
Pizzas which Frank left parts of above curtain rails unless we ever
came back
and he was hungry! Played game where you have to reach down into the
floor
to get drinks-man, who needs drugs? Hardly saw any of the other bands
at all.

J:Tonight was Jack's favourite so far of the Nad's dates. The crowd
actually
moshed a bit. The sound was good thanks to Ben helping out on sound
desk
duties. I still think the monitor dude is screwing us up. Towards the
end of
the set, Frank got blasted with Jack's guitar and Jack had to ask for
the 3rd
time to have the guitar out of the monitors. I broke a string and Andy
(Baby Chaos tour manager) fixed it pronto! Jack did a 2 mile jog after
the
set and the place had really cool showers. We got 4 beers and a plate
of
chilli/veggie pasta.

J:Everyone was sitting down during Baby Chaos's set and it was intimidating
as fuck. Fortunately thanx to a couple of sarcastic comments and big
"get off
your arses" from Jon fatbeast on lights people stood up. The gig
went really
well. Best audience responce yet. It was a good night for Volvo too.
We got
lot's done and Baby Chaos members contributed, as well as Ben Zimmer
and
George Sonar. Jack hada good work out running around the football field
a
number of times-but no showers. Decent drinks rider w/crisps galore.
Veggie
indian bean+rice or Lamb curry was food rider. We gave Jon Fatbeast
a ride
back to London and had a good singalong! Ben,Jane,James,Glenn,me,Jon
fatbeast
and Ali and Bij in the front.

J:We all showed up individually, Ali and I after taking a major tour
of
central London trying to get to the road behind the venue to unload.
Ben said
the desk in the balcony focks up the sound perspective. The gig went
OK. Both
Ali and Jack got unplugged during the set. Rick nearly through an artistic
tantrum after the show. Jack did a good skip-rope workout, joined by
Jane.
Terri and Nicky showed up, and as Nicky was leaving she started getting
faint
passed out and threw up. Very strange 'cause she was'nt drunk or anything.
Jack fell over into Rick's drum kit during "Divorcee". Ali
went out of tune
briefly at the start of "Birthday". jon Fatbeast did a great
intro and got the
crowd really pumped. After, there was a party at LA2, with Ned's and
their
crew and Baby Chaos. There was a massive punch-up between skinheads&bouncers
at the entrance when we tried to get in. Frank broke an A string in
"Birthday"
But his fans did'nt mind and he still shook a lot of hands.

J:Baby Chaos rocked tonight. They went on last downstairs in the smaller
club.
The sound was kickin', the place was packed and they rocked. We began
our day
after the drive, by constructing a new magic carpet. Drum tech problems
during the souncheck whenthe snare skin became unglued. The drum tech
thought
it would be OK to use it for the gig anyway-and it broke. We had a great
Volvo
session downstairs inthe dressing rooms, as weell as hangin' with the
fans
and "partying".

J:Damn good gig tonight. We trashed the Drums at the end and got a bit
rep-
rimanded after. We pulled an immediate leave after the show so AliMac
could
get home and have a good nights sleep. At 5:00am that night Jack,Ali
and
Ben finished their jam session and hit the sack.

F:There's no entrys for this gig? But a few reminders that I can think
of are
The promoters were twins(narley?) And we had it large of course! When
we
latersed the rider, Andy Sonars manager got us a couple of crates of
beer
more from the promoters, and we thought why can't Bij do that! Is this
the
night that Frank fell off the Moonbus and everybody in the van thought
he
was seriously hurt as he was doubled up in what seemed agony, but was
actually
doubled up laughing in the road? Please enter anything that you can
remember!
Dec.2nd,
94 The Jericho Tavern, Oxford.
Support: Skydrive.
J:Jack thought it would be a good idea to attempt big hair tonight but
the
mousse did'nt do the trick. After the show Jack was amazed by how misty
it
was outside. After shitpacking we clambered in the van with Norico,
Rose,
Hannah,Ali,Lucy and her friend and headed to Ali's? for a party. In
the van
I opened all the windows because it was really smokey! It was really
smokey
at Ali's place too, and it was'nt until Jack started complaining about
the
air quality that his eyes were screwed up. It turns out that the mousse
had
run into his eyes during the set and was eating away at his retina's.
Dec
3rd, 94, The Labour Hall, Welwyn Garden City.
Support: The Astronauts.
J:Jack's eyes were killing all day today until after soundcheck, when
Bij
took him to the hospital. Aftr some local anasthetic eyedrops and a
*whye-aye*
patch to cover up the offending organ, everything was cool. A bit of
Frank
Artwork made the eyepatch into a "Quasimodo meets Picasso"
addition to Jack's
visage. The gig was only attended by about 19 people(including the other
bands) so the atmosphere was quite relaxed. Frank had a lot of whiskey, cider
and beer so he was in a slightly altered state. No, actually normal.
Frank
got bored after 3 songs. DLD launched song into song in a 30 min. bombast
of
sonic bedlam. The 1st band had a bit of Bob Mould in them and jack thought
they were quite good!
Dec
7th, 94, The Garage, London.
Support:Joey Fat, Sonar Nation.
F:This gig turned out to be a really bad gig in the sense that we were
all
hyped up(a bit too much) at playing a London gig, Frank drank a half
bottle
of whiskey before going onstage(not a cool thing to do)and kept fucking
up
the songs. But was relieved to find out that everybody else in the band
were
having problems themselves.
Hope you all enjoyed these few excerpts from the DLD tour diaries!
